The Stories of Signum

The Road to The Requiem
Welcome to Saltsport!

With the final words of Lady Argentum ringing in their ears, our heroes set out towards Saltsport with hope in their hearts and a mission ahead of them.

The roads were strangely calm and the skies and fields lacked much of the natural sounds and livelihood. While there was no threat to them, our heroes uneasiness showed itself as they watched the caravans crossing their paths in the night with an understandable paranoia.

Once in town, our heroes made their way through the markets in a quick fashion, seeking a temple of Bahamut but were met with confused eyes as the few who even knew the name referred to him as one of “them old gods”. Deciding the markets may not be the best place for information regarding the churches they headed in The Bucket to visit the temple of Quintelle hoping that her charity may give some answers.

At the temple they met with Sister Kalsmore, a kind dwarven priestess who did not have the details they needed but did give them a lead to another dwarf in the city said to be mad, raving about dragons he could see and how they were coming.

An awkward interaction next to the brothel and some convincing of the bunkhouse guard, our heroes found the prophetic dwarf named Gaden Moore. This unsuspecting ally knew who our heroes were before they even arrived, though he seemed hard to believe it was true.

Now full of the hope that our heroes inspired within him, Gaden told them of his visions regarding the chromatic dragons and the Ordo Draconis. He explained the tattoos that adorned their bodies and what they meant. Our heroes were something called “The Gilded”, a group of people chosen by the metallic dragons to represent them across Signum.

While Gaden is not sure of The Ordo’s overall objective, he is quite sure that wherever they are active they will spread death and chaos throughout the lands. He offers his services to the heroes and is willing to show them were the old temple of Bahamut lies within the city, though they will need a way in first and they only lead they have on that is a fellow hero they have heard a handful of stories about named Brisbane Gald of the Vanguard of the Storm.

The heroes take their leave from Gaden and quickly make their way back to the markets to sell off the plunder they had gained from their adventures so far.

A Narrow Escape!
And So the Story Begins...

With the area surrounding Aeston finally safe, our heroes to be turned their eyes onto the mountain range west through the woods. Atop it’s lofty peaks sits the manor of the enigmatic Lady Argentum who gave our party their call to action and set these events into motion.

The trek up the mountain was not without its own dangers, from collapsed bridges to angry hill giants the stalwart adventurers pushed forward, undeterred by the threats they may face still.

As they reached the entry they were confronted with the corpse of a guardian who’s spirit decided it was not done guarding and possessed Mr. Merrigold. After a tense discussion, they finally managed to convince Guardian Rehalem that their intentions were pure.

With only a moment to breath, the tortured screams of Lady Argentum pierced the calm of the mountain top, and with it a torrent of arcane energy which caused the statues and inanimate objects to spring to life in indiscriminate defense of the manor. After defeating the statues of long dead adventurers, our heroes were able to make their way into the manor proper.

Inside, more animated furniture and hobgoblins awaited, but short of a toasty situation with an animated fireplace and a runaway coat rack, our heroes prevailed over the first level of the manor.

On the second level, they learned that the Lady’s spirit was bound by some kind of rituals, one deep within the garden and the other hidden away within the study.

Along the way, the were able to rescue some common folk who had been serving as the hobgoblins’ slaves, being forced to mine deep into the courtyard of the manor. These slaves had learned of old servants’ passages within the manor and used them to take an unforeseen path towards the gardens.

Within the botanical gardens our heroes met with a treant by the name of Oakbrow and rescue him from his confines within a magical circle of fire. Sabriel’s effort to dispel his prison were rewarded as Oakbrow bestowed an unidentified fruit as a gift and opened a path to their goal.

What followed was a battle of magics and darkness thanks to the miasmic darkness the Xander called forth. The spell and the party’s flurry of attacks were enough to distract the mages from their ritual, though they returned the slight with a series of fireballs, leaving our heroes very worse for wear. In the end, the day belonged to our heroes and they slayed the dragonborn cultists.

Next came the study, a labyrinthine library that one could get lost in for days if they so chose. After some scouting, Al came to a realization that they were not alone in study. They were accompanied by mages of The Westerwynn College of the Arcane. After some discussions and convincing they discovered that though some form of magic Lady Argentum’s library was attached to the Westerwynn Grand Library in some fashion, though they were unable to effect one another in their opposing places.

Within the study, they managed to intimidate the students who seemed to be performing the ritual to keep the second chain in place. Though they were quite capable of the ritual, they did not seem to know it’s purpose and were under the guidance of a professor at the school.

When the second chain broke, Argentum’s cry this time was not that of pain, but instead freedom. When the party made its way to the courtyard, they caught glimpses of her soaring overheard while they did battle with the remaining forces.

Telling the Lady to wait for their return, our heroes continued down the tunnels to confront the long whispered of “red warrior” whom they learned was Razz’vash, Son of Razz’eth.

With an ambush from Al, the fight started in their favor but quickly began to pivot after Razz’eth still in human form froze Al in his boots and Razz’Vash rallied his small battalion of hobgoblin foot soldiers.

The fight was brutal and long, but finally came to a close as Merrigold and Al dove into the fires of the mountain itself to finish him. Though even with his demise, the tyrannical paladin had one last trick up his sleeve, an amulet containing some form of magic that turned his body into a dragon completely, and a quite upset one at that.

But still our heroes came out ahead. With Razz’Vash’s final demise, they rallied the imprisoned slaves and made for a quick escape but were quickly stopped by the two monolithic dragons doing battle in the sky above. As they attempted their escape, Lady Argetum was felled in her weakened state, and the “magically enhanced Al” helped her made a lighting quick escape.

Razz’eth’s rage at the loss of his prey was directed at the slowest members of our party, leaving them scorched and scarred. Running for their lives, the managed to escape into the servant tunnels and with the last of her power, Lady Argentum teleported our heroes and all of the slaves to safety back in Aeston with only one final message.

“You have been chosen by The Gilded. Stop the Ordo at all costs. Seek out The Requiem in Saltsport.”

Attack on Aeston!

From far and wide our five heroes journeyed. Each with their tales converging on the small town of Aeston, three days north of Westport. Weeks earlier a letter had arrived, addressed to them and sent by the Amyncian Messengers Guild.

As the five made for Aeston, leaving the other travelers to head around the farms and towards the trade hub of Westport they realized that each had not been chosen alone. Introductions were a tad awkward, but it is to be expected with this colorful cast of heroes.

We have,

  • Clement Merrigold, Human Fighter
  • Al, Wood Elven Rogue
  • Sabriel, Wood Elven Druid of the Embergrove
  • Atu, Kuru Cleric of Quintelle
  • Xander, Half-Elven Warlock and Acolyte of The Lost God

Deciding to march through the night, our heroes came upon Aeston with a rising sun, and into town they came like rays from the sun, fighting back the darkness that was attacking the town.

With their combined efforts our newly banded heroes pushed back the goblin attack and their spider cohorts. With most dead and a few of the scum scurrying back into the hills, the band was welcomed into the tavern by the new impromptu mayor and barkeep, Quinlan Moore.

With a medicine kit and a strange syringe of lightly glowing fluid he was able to bring Savriel back to consciousness while he offered an Elixir of Expedited Invigoration to them all as he feared this would not be the last of the goblin attacks. He then asked them to go and check on the small town guard who had gone to investigate the eastern farmstead.

When our party arrived, they were greeted with a grizzly scene. The guards who had responded had fallen to more precise and tactical wounds, the farmhead have been cut down trying to defend himself and his wife and daughter ravaged by whomever had caused this chaos.

Trapped in the stores beneath the kitchen the only survivor of the farm, a young boy name Finn called out to our adventurers. At only eleven winters, Finn was able to steel himself to the loss with the aid of Clement’s words and Al’s memorial gift of his parents rings and his sister’s pendant.

They kept Finn from the grizzly scene upstairs and got him back to the town proper and set him up with Quinlan and a stiff drink as well as a sword. After that, they headed west towards the other farmstead to see if any had survived the attack.

Along the road to the western stead, a small band of goblins and spiders moved to finish the town. Saying their goodbyes to one another, our party dove into the fight with little hope of making it back to celebrate a victory.

Against all odds they pushed back the green skinned and chitinous attackers, through once again Savriel fell to their blows.A prayer from Atu staved off her death and they moved quickly to the farmstead to see if all were dead.

Instead of bodies, they found the house in flames and evidence that the people had been taken. Spirits low, the returned to the Sterling Saloon and settled down to mend their wounds and get some much needed rest.

A few of our heroes went into town in hopes of finding a medicine kit and some other supplies. They met Garret Gensworth, owner and operator of the general store in town. He plead our party to find his son Benny who was taken in the goblin raid. He offered payment from his next shipment should they all make it that long.

After their meeting at the general store they headed to the local smithy where they met Samantha Kane, the daughter of the now dead smith. With some aid and guidance she was able to do some basic upgrades through the night to Al’s armor and provided a few basic armaments to the group. Most were already in the hands of the militia that Quinlan was putting together.

With that, the group has laid their heads but most sleep with one eye open, awaiting the return of the green skinned menace on this town.
